The afternoon tea at the Berkeley Hotel in London

Versione in italiano

We all know that in the last two centuries the afternoon tea has been one of the most famous English customs and London offers plenty of opportunities to try this unique experience.
If you are a fashionista, if you love elegant tearooms and full-bodied teas, the Prêt-à-Portea at the Berkeley Hotel is designed expressively for you.
Ask for a table near the large windows, enjoy the Caramel Room bathed in light and begin to browse the list of teas to combine with savoury and sweet bites.
The Prêt-à-Portea ritual begins with delicate sandwiches with salmon and eggplant, goat cheese and onions, tuna and beef. To follow, your table will be covered by the milk puddings and custards, pastries and biscuits that have made the Berkeley’s Afternoon Tea so famous: Manolo Blahnik’s Hangisi quintessential pointy toe stiletto ginger biscuit, Burberry’s classic trench coat chocolate biscuit with creamy royal icing, Dolce and Gabbana’s duo of blackcurrant bavarois and star anise pannacotta, topped with chocolate owl dress design and much more.

The Berkeley Hotel started life some 300 years ago as a coffee house and since 2005 has successfully launched this glamorous version of the English afternoon tea, inspired by the designers that enchant the world from the London Fashion Week’s catwalks.
We started our afternoon with an Earl Grey, the great classic bergamot-flavoured tea, and then we tried a Wuyi Oolong, but you will be literally spoilt for choice: the menu includes also a special season selection and some rare blends that will really tempt you. If you are a fan of champagne, there is this option too.
Given the abundance of food, It is advisable to go to the Berkeley pretty hungry, but you will be anyway offered a bespoke take-away box in case you don’t feel like eating all the cookies.
If you fall in love with this kind of pastry, you can buy the amazing book with the Prêt-à-Portea recipes or book a Masterclass with Head Pastry Chef Mourad Khiat to learn (almost) all the secrets of the Berkeley Afternoon Tea.
